pumpkins scream in the dead of night!

yesterday was the huge halloween celebration at yale! so much fun on my favorite holiday. we started with a pre-party at chris's house, since it is also one of his favorite holidays. we ate fingers and beans, porcupine balls, boogers on a stick, and pumpkin pie, and drank cider and witch's brew. good times.

a bunch of people dressed up as all the characters from peter pan. here's jeff as captain hook, jade as peter, casey as tinkerbell, alice as tigerlily, and jenny as wendy. they all did a really good job on their costumes!





liz was a renaissance lady and manav was pikachu.



karl dressed as a crazy scientist, and i was a flapper, later to be velma kelly of chicago fame.

we played a silly drinking game called moose, where you bounce a quarter into an ice-cube tray and depending where it lands you either take or give out drinks.



everyone has to pay close attention because when the quarter lands in the furthest ice-cube slot, everyone has to yell "moose!" and put their hands up by their head.



jade was having issues bouncing the quarter, but then again, so was i and everyone else.

i lost the first round of moose by being the last one to put my hands up because i wasn't paying attention. then i had to drink the communal cup of witch's brew in the middle of the table. but manav lost the second time.



carolyn, chris, and janelle didn't actually play, but watched instead.



casey went into the pantry to see if her wings glowed-in-the-dark. they did. but she left glitter everywhere.

after hanging out at chris's place for a while, we went over to gpscy (around 8ish) where the biggest party of the year was supposed to happen. on the way, rich's coconuts ended up lopsided.

after it got really crowed at gpscy--so crowed that you couldn't even move on the dance floor anymore-- we took the yale shuttle over to the sculpture building and went to the art/archie party. the music was better there than at gpscy, and it was a lot less crowded. here are jeff, alice, jade, and liz dancing.

when i got home around 1:30 my feet were killing me. but i did manage to wear the wig and the three-inch heels all night long. and it was a long night; i think we partied for 8 hours straight! i think everyone had a fantastic time. we didn't meet any cute boys, but manav and i decided that we should go to art parties more often because the prospects are better than in biology where everyone is unavailable.

after soaking my sad, sad feet in hot water, it was bedtime. i curled up in my bed full of fluffies and went to sleep. thank goodness for daylight savings and that extra hour!

and today is going to be a non-productive day! i think i will sit and watch more of the fourth season of the simpsons. that seems like a better thing to do than write a genetics summary. here's to a lazy sunday!

birthday aftermath

i had a very good birthday. lots of friends and love and presents and drinks. and lots of good pictures....

erica made me a cake with a fluffy on it. it was very cute and delicious.

we first went to anna liffey's which was filled with old men. kind of weird. but still a good irish pub. probably better to go to at the end of the night when already drunk. they play good music. we had a round of shots (intimate encounter, except for jenny and jeff who had washington apples because jenny is alergic to nuts). anyway, here's me with manav and chris.

and that's the end of the birthday photos. i had a really really good night. i got phone calls from everyone-- gerrit, connor, joe the poop, ash, my mommy and dadoo. it was great.

miklos is wearing the wig i got for halloween. it looks a lot better on me than it does on him.



josh and i invented a shot that we named "the neon catherine" because it was bright teal in color. it had sour apple pucker, vanilla vodka, midori, peach schnapps, and blue curacao. yummy. we made a bunch of them and then miklos, josh, casey, jenny, rich and i all had them.



i made miklos a long island ice tea and he felt the need to take a bunch of pictures of it. i don't really know why.





we all played a round of apples to apples. it was fun, but there were too many people to really play, so we switched to taboo. and that worked out better.



karl hung out with pudgy all night because the pudgy had been sitting on the couch.

however, even after having such a wonderful day yesterday and lots of fun to look forward to tomorrow, i feel quite shitty tonight. something this afternoon made me very upset; probably more upset than it should have because i tend to overreact and be irrational. anyway, i'm still unsettled and feeling a bit lonely. i know i shouldn't. i mean just look at all those pictures of good times and good friends from yesterday and last weekend. i have no reason to feel bad right now at all. today is just a crappy ass day i guess. let's hope tomorrow improves.

the other thing that sucked today is that stop'n'shop had no pumpkins!! i couldn't believe it. made me really sad. i guess i don't get to carve a pumpkin this year. at least chris said that i can have some of the pumpkin mush from his pumpkins and the seeds. so that is good.

another story: a few weeks ago this guy from my high school friended me on the facebook, remarking how weird it was for two people from the nhhs class of 2001 to end up in the same city. especially because it's so hard to keep in touch with anyone from high school. he sent me a message that i got today, saying that he comes down to new haven to go out most weekends and that we should go drink together. i agreed of course because i'm almost always up for drinking. i figured one night when i was out with friends i could hang out with him or something. turns out he was coming to new haven tonight to go to gpscy. i hadn't really planned on going out, so i called him and told him i was tired and had no one to walk to the bar with, both of which are true. so sometime in the next month we'll hang out. it should be interesting because i didn't really know the guy that well in high school at all. i don't know.

and now i am watching edward scissorhands, one of the movies i got for my birthday. i like it so far. and then i will go to bed and wake up tomorrow and it will be a happier day. at least that's the plan.

pudgy is not dressing up for halloween this year because he can't go to the bar.
