huh

i keep updating this stupid thing so people know basically what i am up to now that i am far away.

i figured it was understood that there is more to my life than what i actually post in my blog and than anyone that i try to keep in touch with would understand that.

i know i'm pretty bad at keeping in touch. and i don't call or email as often as i should. but i also hope this is not a one way street and that i'm not calling people who don't care about what's going on with me anymore. if that's the case, tell me not to talk to you anymore. if it's not the case, hopefully our phone conversations will continue to be good/at least ok/i hope i don;t suck at life and i'm not forgeting that you exist.

yeah.

i actually had a pretty good night. call me if you care.

pahlahmahlou

yay stillers! i had fun watching the game on sunday and i hope you did too!

here are some stories and adventures from the past few days. not all of them are exciting, but such is life.

1. gerrit sent me kindereggs in an egg carton along with a bunch of other german chocolate and that makes me happy. and fat. woohoo!

2. friday night was hula hanks happy hour #3. i will post pictures later i promise. we all had fun at hula hanks and got really drunk and then a few of us (rajini, meisha, jen hardee, and tom) went to gpscy. i went in hopes that the cute bartender would be working, but alas, he was not. we hung out for a while and i had a long conversation about something with jen hardee sitting on the couch. then this random guy comes up and asks if he can sit on the other end of the couch. we don;t care. but then he forces himself upon our conversation and wraps his arm around my waist and leans over me so he can talk to both me and jen. a little forward but hey. so we talk for a while and jen had to leave so i continued talking to him. we had a relatively normal conversation about what we study, and i tried to explain why i'm interested in science and specificly molecular biology and biological mechanisms of neuroscience. he didn't get it and the conversation got slightly awkward. when i said i had to go home he offered to drive me which was nice. he drove me home and of course then invited me over to his place. i was mean and told him no i have to go to bed now because i'm tired and he drove away. sometimes one is just not in the mood to have a one night stand.

3. last night was my first night working the door at the grad student pub gpscy. it wasn't terribly exciting.... i got to help set up the bar (by getting ice and garbage cans) and set up chairs and stuff and then spent the next 5 hours checking ids at the door. 21 people came to watch the canadian elections. oooo how exciting. aparently the conservative guys won or something. but i think it will be a good job and all the peopel that work there are really nice. i get to drink for free while i'm working and i get $1 whenever i go to the bar from now on. and that is really nice. last night i had a whiskey sour while sitting at the door reading all my papers for classes for the week. since a new bartender was training i also had an appletini when she was practicing making them. even though i officially clocked out at 1:20, i stayed until about 2am hanging out with people. they started watching serenity, which i have already seen, and when the other two girls left i got a ride home with them. i will probably continue to work one night a week, maybe two over the summer. since a lot of people are graduating in the spring it's possible that i might move up to bartending at the end of the summer. and that would be awesome.

4. yesterday, my pcr finally worked correctly after i had been playing with the conditions and adjusting things for three weeks. hooray!! so now i am moving along with the cloning and in another few weeks i will have transgenic worms! also, i got to set up crosses so that i can do the other part of my project and study serotonin levels in worm neurons. woohoo. my lab is going bowling adn drinking on friday night which promises to be a lot of fun, although i will be missing hula hanks happy hour #4 (i filled out a card to try to win more so missing #4 is really no big loss). i'm excited about lab bowling!

5. tonight is my second hip hop class which will also be fun. i think i'm going to buy a copy of pride and prejudice to read in my free time (which is slowly dwindling, hooray, i hate having free time). and then i will make a wonderful dinner!

6. my a capella group continues to kick lots of ass! we know three songs. i arranged (preliminarily) ben folds five's "song for the dumped" so hopefully we will start learning that soon too. i can't wait until we get to perform in front of real people and we are all awesome and impressive. woohoo!

7. classes are kind of poopy. i'm taking two seminars and a lecture/seminar class. the two seminars are huge-- ~20 people or so-- which is way too big to have a productive discussion about a paper. usually 15 poeple is ideal. my lecture/seminar class has 15 people so it's a good size, but no one talks in the seminars so it also sucks. i hate talking all the time in class.

8. next weekend is the bbs recruitment weekend, and i am hosting a student. it should be lots of fun and partying and drinking and stuff. hooray free food and drinks!!

in general life is good. occasionally, it's a bit lonely and boring and i still can only sleep on one half of my bed (fluffies sleep in the other half), but mostly, all is well.

pudgy is still wearing my terrible towel as a cape and it is cute!

also....

PI(4,5)P2

boring boring crap.

number of papers about PI(4,5)P2 read: 2.5
papers remaining: 1.5 + 2 about miRNAs
email checks: 1000000000
other productive computer/internet related things done: 10
nonproductive things done: 100000000

yes. i have no lab work to do today, but i figured i'd come in to lab to try to get some reading done for my seminar classes. unfortunately, the cell bio papers are rediculously long and boring as shit. so it's very hard to be motivated to read them. i think i will try to sit in the conference room/kitchen where there is no computer. maybe i will be more productive there....

this weekend i did nothing. well, that's kind of a lie. friday we went out for brad's birthday. i hope he had fun, but he seemed pretty unenthusiastic especially towards the end of the night. oh well. saturday i went to call backs for the noises off auditions (i didn't get cast by the way, but really that's ok because the show is the same weekend as carnival. so if i had gotten cast i wouldn't be able to go back to pgh for carnival and that would have been sad). but the call backs were fun at any rate. then for the rest of the day i actually did nothing. i watched about 10 episodes of various law and orders, cooked a deliious dinner of chicken cacciatore and spatzle with chocolate fondant pudding for dessert, and went to bed early. after sleeping for about 12 hours, i woke up to watch the stillers game. which was awesome!!! the last 2 minutes were absolutely insane and i'm so happy we won! the pudgy fluffy wore the terrible towel again and was all cute watching the game. then i went to the gym and ran 5 miles, went grocery shopping, and watched more tv. so much tv this weekend.

at least next weekend i will get out of the house. i am going skiing all weekend and it will be great!! pray for cold and snow for me!! do a snow dance or something.

tonight i am interviewing to become a bouncer at gpscy. ha ha ha, can you imagine me trying to kick someone out of a bar? but eventually i will get to bartend and that will be fun.

now i really should try to get some reading done. i'm moving away from the computer. wish me luck!

in case you were wondering....

number of people emailing me to ask when brad wanted to go out: at least 5 which is too many
number of alcoholic drinks consumed tonight: 7
number of audition call backs: 1!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm so excited!! i got called back for noises off for the part of poppy (i almost typed poopy) who is the stage manager or something. yay!! again so excited!! this will eat up all of my free time which is good because i hate having free time.

anyways, within the last week i discovered....
1. i love the lab that i am now in. the pepl rile!! really. even though i haven't actually accomplished any real lab work it is great.
2. brad's birthday was tonight and apparently everyone figured that it would be best to ask me what we were doing to celebrate. because obviously, i know what brad wants to do. at any rate i hope he had at least a semi-good time. i did what i could.
3. my a capella group continues to be awesome!! i love all my girls!! our first concert is going to be amazing. and we are soon going to learn ben folds "song for the dumped" and the dixie chicks "goodbye earl." woohoo!!
4. classes are still classes. we'll see how they are this semester. so far i have gotten all "a's" from last semester although the genetics class grades have not been posted yet. we shall see.

i need to go to bed and not wake up hungover for my call back tomorrow! wish me luck!!

fluffies!!!

also

my new year's resolution (a week late) is to stop letting the little things bother me. i'll be much happier and much less crazy. yes.

running is good. i can't wait until it is warm enough to run outside again. loud angry girl rock is also good.

finally a real update

current location of phone: found!! (it was in chris's car)
current level of misery: still higher than normal
level of stupidity: astronomical
hours of sleep: only 5-6
hatred of boys: rediculous (except chris because he found my phone)
alcohol units last night: 8
hangover: none
good thoughts: 1 (see hangover status)

i've decided to start every blog entry from now on with a bridget jones-esque report on the current status of my life. it'll be more fun that way i think.

let's see...
-skiing over break was fun
-new years was fun but i puked a lot
-my new lab is good although i haven't actually done anything yet
-i need to post photos of when miklos, phil, and connor came to visit, and from hula hanks last night. that will happen eventually

currently it is way too early for me to be awake on a saturday morning, especially after going to bed after 3am last night. but i'm awake anyway.

i'm frustrated right now because i let myself get upset over a boy. typical i know. but this was really stupid because the boy isn't at all worth getting upset about. at all. and i really had nothing to be upset about. i'm just stupid, i guess.

anyway, i think i'm going to put this whole being awake early thing to good use and go to the gym again to run out some of my frustration. that would be good. and then there is lots of football to watch, although it will be less fun because i'll probably be watching it by myself. poop. big important steelers game tomorrow!!

fluffies.

currently flipping out

because i can't find my phone.

i hope to god it's in chris's car.

anyone one who reads this call my phone and hopfully it will ring and be found by someone who will return it to me.

ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
